Lesson 1 Who's are you?

Day One – Who Are You? Whose Are You? Where do I Belong? Why do I have this comfort?
Q & A One Heidelberg Catechism

Who’s are you really is the question here! Today’s culture is a sucker for individualism, the idea that you can do this on your own… If you dream you can be successful, go to school so you can get a better job, seek the job for money, become rich, become powerful, because this is what will make you successful. Even some Christians have said that if you trust in God you will become successful in a worldly sense. They (the world) is telling us to create dreams, to go to school, to work hard all for our benefit; but this is false! This materialistic world that calls you out to be an individualist is not godly and is not what HE desires you to be! You are not your own, rather you belong.

Look around you. Tell me what you see… What about seeing nature do you love? What would it be like to not have light?

Now, look directly at the sun. Not that easy is it? God is our source of light, but looking directly at him in order to understand him is impossible. He is so beyond us that we will not ever be able to wrap our minds around his majesty. Rather, he illuminates himself to us through 1. his word and 2. his creation (you, your dreams, your hopes, etc…). In order to understand more clearly the majesty of God we need to realize that we belong to him and see his plans for us.

We have to get past this idea that we are individuals and realize the best place for us is to deny ourselves and reach the calling of belonging! If we deny the light we live in darkness. Individualism is your own loss! Desires, hopes, and dreams rooted in ourselves are our own destruction! When we control our dreams we lose control of our lives. The matter of the fact is that you are not your own but you belong to something greater and much more awesome than us. Realization of this is our greatest comfort and benefit! Praise the Lord.
